As someone who has always been passionate about learning and expanding my skill set, the opportunity to participate in the Google Workspace for Growth (GWG) Professional Project Management certificate was a pivotal moment in my career journey. This program, facilitated by MentorMe, not only equipped me with essential project management skills but also opened doors to new professional opportunities and personal growth.
During my time as a scholar in the most recent cohort, I was elected as a track lead. This role was both an honour and a challenge that I embraced wholeheartedly. The positive feedback from my fellow scholars reassured me that I was on the right path. Being the first in my track to complete the certification, I was eager to put my newfound knowledge to the test. I approached our Project Management Office (PMO) and was fortunate to connect with Thirasha, a seasoned project manager, who graciously allowed me to assist her. This mentorship has been invaluable, providing me with real-world experience and insights that I continue to benefit from.
Following the completion of my project management certification, I knew my journey with GWG was far from over. Despite having a lot on my plate, with work commitments and personal responsibilities, I decided to challenge myself further by applying for the GWG Professional Cybersecurity Certification offered by Google. Initially, I chose not to take on the role of a track lead due to my busy schedule. However, a representative from Mentor Me Collective saw potential in me and convinced me to step up once again.
Diving into the first module of the cybersecurity course has been an exciting experience. The content is both enriching and challenging, pushing me to think critically about the evolving landscape of cybersecurity. This course is proving to be an incredible blend of theory and practical application, preparing us for real-world scenarios we may face as cybersecurity professionals.
The support and encouragement from the Mentor Me community have been instrumental in my journey. Being a track lead once again has reminded me of the importance of leadership and the impact one can have by guiding and inspiring others. It’s about creating an environment where everyone feels empowered to succeed, just as I was empowered by my peers and mentors.
In reflecting on my experiences, I am grateful for the opportunities and connections this scholarship has fostered. It’s a testament to the power of continuous learning and the importance of stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Although the path has been demanding, the rewards have been immense, and I am eager to continue this journey, armed with new skills and a steadfast commitment to growth.
As I look to the future, I am excited about the endless possibilities that lie ahead. This journey with GWG and MentorMe has not only enriched my professional life but has also instilled in me a deeper appreciation for the power of community, mentorship, and education. I hope to continue leveraging these experiences to inspire and uplift others on their paths to success.
